Schmidt boatworks follows a family tradition of excellence in boat building with Rockywater aluminum welded boats. Since childhood I have loved the sea and my father’s passion for his craft was fully shared by his family – we lived on a sailboat till I was thirteen years old.

While sports fishing boats are our specialty, years of shipyard experience crafting boats of steel has proven the value of a strong frame. With this in mind, Rockywater boats are made of high quality welded aluminum, light and strong: by weight, aluminum is the strongest material available. Hand crafted and sea tested in Port Alberni, British Columbia — the fishing capital of Canada — on the beautiful Barkley Sound, our boats are carefully designed with an emphasis on strength, speed and catching fish! 

I’d like to talk for a minute about catching fish.  There’s more to it than a light, fast and sturdy boat, although that’s important — it has to have just the right amount of electricity too.  By slightly adjusting the zinc we make sure that you catch the fish and create perfect corrosion resistence at the same time.  It is imperative that the electrical is correct — and that’s where we are the experts.
